What if I'm not sure it's the right fit?

I offer a free 30 minute consultation where you can ask questions, discuss your concerns, and find out how I can help. There is no obligation to commit.

Will I have to talk about all the details of my trauma?
No, rest assured, it is not necessary to discuss distressing details, to heal from trauma.

How do I know if I'm getting better?

There are many ways to measure progress including: rating scales, symptom reduction, ability to regulate difficult emotions, and improved relationships. If you're concerned you aren't improving, I encourage you to discuss this with your therapist, to ensure your needs are being met.

Are psychotherapy services covered by insurance?

Although psychotherapy is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Program (OHIP), it is covered by many insurance companies. All you require is a proper receipt to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. There are still certain circumstances where employers may not have psychotherapy coverage included in their plans, therefore it will be important that you check your extended health care coverage in advance.

Do you offer psychological services?
Unfortunately, psychology is a separate service. If your insurance plan only covers psychologists, you may need to find a doctorate level psychologist, or book with an agency that partners with a psychologist or psychological associate.

Insurance Companies that typically offer coverage for psychotherapy services include:

-
Manulife Financial
-
Canada Life Assurance
-
Medavie Blue Cross
-
Equitable Life
-
Greenshield
-
Ontario Teacher's Insurance Plan (OTIP)

Sunlife frequently does not cover psychotherapy services, therefore, please read your plan carefully if you have insurance through Sunlife.

Do you offer sliding scale options?

I offer a limited number of sessions at a reduced cost under some circumstances.

Do psychotherapists charge HST?

Effective June 21, 2024, Psychotherapists are no longer required to charge HST.
Do I have to commit to a certain number of sessions?

No, although improvements can take time, you are never obligated to commit to a certain number of sessions.

How often do I have to attend appointments?

My typical recommendation is to begin with sessions closer together, either weekly or bi-weekly. This is so we can gather information, create plans, and gain some momentum. We can reduce the frequency of sessions as you are comfortable. There are many ways to structure treatment that still offer positive results. We can work together to create a structure that fits your lifestyle.
